They are located in the north of the State of Chiapas, in the limits of the municipality of Tumbalá and the municipality of Chilón, only 64 kilometers from the city of Palenque

CLIMATE, FLORA AND FAUNA:

A warm-humid climate of 25ºC average, sponsors tree communities of more than 40 m of height: beautiful and chicozapotes of sweet fruits, barís of tenuous aroma and ramones of nutritious seeds, among many others that show off on their trunks bromeliads and orchids, the surprising landscape is set by shrieks of howler and spider monkeys, fast ocelots and jaguars, red macaws chattering and aerial jumps of toucans beak of canoe.

The light filters all colors into the water, except for blue, which, when it reaches the bottom, reflects beautiful turquoise tones on the surface, and when it falls into the Tulijá River it forms one of the most beautiful curtains of water: the Agua Azul Waterfall.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS

The National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (Conanp) in Chiapas, commented that at the request of the communities settled within the Cascadas de Agua Azul natural reserve, solid waste management and corresponding complaints about deforestation in protected areas have been carried out by invaders.

Similarly, reforestation activities have been carried out and monitoring and surveillance work has been carried out with community volunteer groups from the reserve.

According to the Description of the Problem of the APFF of the Cascades of Agua Azul, one of them is the contamination by the open air dump, which has increased the number of wastes in the last years.

This is a site located in a ravine within the traditional use subzone, by the side of the road. The garbage that ends up there belongs to the communities that live within the reserve; plastic, food, sanitary waste, and even dead animals are disposed of in the dump.

This creates a focus of contamination for the wild fauna and flora, as well as for the animals that migrate to other sites. This waste also affects the soil, air and water in the area.

For this reason, CONANP executes training programs on solid waste management for the communities within the reserve, in order to mitigate contamination from this factor.
