Volunteering for the conservation of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil

The trip I made was to a volunteer of the conservation of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, I stayed at "Local Hostel", located in the center of Manaus, near the Rio Negro and its ports; its team has experience in volunteers who arrive, receiving travelers from around the world who are looking for a strong contact with nature.

The time I will be helping will be around 5 months.

The name of the program I'm in is called Projects Abroad, the purpose is to rehabilitate wild animals, support animals that have been abused or injured and then release them. To study biodiversity and more than anything else the experience and feeling of being in the middle of the jungle knowing that you are helping to protect it as well as reforestation.

The activities I have done are:

• Working with freshwater turtles, focusing on protecting their eggs and hatchlings to increase the population.

• I have rehabilitated species that previously inhabited some area, such as spider monkeys.

• Together with a group of people we recorded 18 species of mammals in a camera trap investigation.

• I rescued more than 1000 turtle eggs.

• I also helped the communities to enhance their natural wealth and cultural attractions.

Activities I plan to do during these days:

• Combating deforestation, burning and promoting sustainable forest development.

• Plant young trees.

• Work helping to improve local infrastructure, identify native plant and animal species.
